How to Apply for The Studio in Bath's Residency Programme   Process and evaluation

You can apply to become a Resident at any time, but we review applications once every four months. We offer Residencies where we have space and sometimes with a particular focus on the skills and experience, we are looking for to help build the community. We keep these numbers low to ensure that, as a small team, we can fully support our Residents.

Application reviews for Spring intake open 8am on 27 January and close midnight on 3rd March, 2025.

Before applying, please carefully consider what being a Resident involves, which of the FIVE Residencies we offer will best suits your current needs and support your development for the future. All Residencies are reviewed annually.

Types of Residencies
  1. Open Day:Fully subsidised, one day per week. Residents choose the best day for them to come into the building.
  2. Building Your Practice: Fully subsidised for up to 12 months. Current focus on Immersive Tech training and innovation through our tech library.
  3. Pay As You Go: Part subsidised at £10 per day.

Encouraging Diverse Applications

We actively encourage applications from individuals with backgrounds that are underrepresented in the creative technology and cultural sectors. This includes those from communities that experience racism, individuals with disabilities (as defined by the Equalities Act 2010), or those who did not attend university/were eligible for free school meals as a child. If you fall into any of these categories and would like assistance in understanding how your experience meets our criteria, please book a time to discuss this with us by emailing thestudio@bathspa.ac.uk. (We will not ask you to disclose your background.)

If your interest in becoming a Resident is time-sensitive (e.g., you are only in the city/country for a short period and would like to base yourself here), please contact the team directly.

The Interview

All interviews are conducted at The Studio in Bath or, if necessary, online or over the phone. The interview panel consists of two members drawn from The Studio Team, current Residents, and occasionally our wider community. We can arrange a visit to The Studio before the interview to help you prepare. You are welcome to bring someone to support you during the interview or to be available afterward. We also have a dedicated quiet space in The Studio if you need time to relax before or after your interview.

If you have specific access needs, please inform our Studio Manager at thestudio@bathspa.ac.uk.
