Space for creative & tech development

Welcome to our new Studio Residency Program!

Our residencies are designed to support the local community of creatives working with immersive technology. Each Resident embarks on a journey marked by self-defined milestones, promoting self-sufficiency and sustainability.

Our Approach

We are moving towards a sharing economy model within our residencies. Residents, both individually and collectively, are encouraged to activate four key principles:

  • Address Resource Scarcity:Manage and utilise available resources.
  • Make Do with What is Available: Innovate and create with existing resources.
  • Improvise by Recombining Resources:Combine resources in new ways to solve problems.
  • Network with External Partners: Build connections with external partners to enhance resource sharing.

This model ensures that skills and shared resources are utilised effectively, enabling a more strategic and clear understanding of our capacity as individuals and as a community.

Each Resident will have the opportunity to define their valuable offer, and in discussion with The Studio team, a social token value will be assigned to the service/expertise they are willing to share to help build the community.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for our residency program, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Experience Level: early-stage creatives through to more established creatives with 2-5 years of experience in their field.
  • Demonstrated Body of Work:Submit a portfolio showcasing your creative practice, skills, and artistic direction.
  • Commitment to Creative Practice:Articulate a clear vision and specific goals for your creative practice during the residency.
  • Interest in Immersive Technology:Show a strong interest in exploring or integrating immersive technology into your work.
  • Willingness to Collaborate: Demonstrate a willingness to engage with other participants and contribute to the community.
  • Capacity for Development:Show potential for growth and the ability to leverage the residency’s resources.
  • Openness to Feedback and Learning: Express readiness to receive constructive feedback and participate in skill development workshops.
  • Representation Across Disciplines and Backgrounds:We aim for a diverse cohort, including participants from various creative disciplines, cultural backgrounds, and underrepresented communities. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to inclusive practices.
Types of Residencies

We offer five types of residencies that have a full value of £12,000 P/A including access and training with our immersive equipment:

  1. Open Day: Fully subsidised, one day per week. Residents choose the best day for them. Reviewed annually.
  2. Building Your Practice:Fully subsidised for up to 12 months, with opportunities to apply for Hot Desk or Pay as You Go options.
  3. Pay As You Go: Part subsidised, £10 per day or in-kind support, reviewed annually.
  4. Hot Desk:Part subsidised, £40 per month or in-kind support, reviewed annually.

Funds raised through ‘Pay As You Go’ and ‘Hot Desk’ residencies support community growth, while income from ‘Fixed Desk’ residencies supports staffing costs and limited programming. While these options require some form of payment, there are multiple ways to make this contribution through skill-sharing instead of a financial contribution.
