Extra Cluster Lunch – Stretching Embodiment Talk
Stretching Embodiment: Exploring Extended Realities
New technologies such as VR and AR, along with interactive and site specific art, are changing how we experience space, movement and the body. These kinds of work can create new ways of feeling present, connecting physical and digital environments, and experiencing more than one space at the same time.
From June 2024 to September 2025, a group of five researchers and movement artists worked together to develop a collaborative funding application. Their work explores how these creative practices shape the way bodies are represented and experienced in both physical and virtual spaces, and who is included or excluded in those experiences.
The project brings together a range of practices including digital and movement based work, film, photography, and interactive art. It has been supported by The Studio, as well as funding from NCACE and Bath Spa University.
In this session, Professor Vicky Hunter and Dr Zhi Xu will share insights from this collaborative process, including how they worked across disciplines and between academic and creative contexts.
This session is open to anyone interested in collaborative projects, creative research, and working across different fields.
Held on the fourth Tuesday of every month, Cluster Lunches are an informal opportunity to meet Studio Residents and hear from local speakers working in your area. Please bring your own lunch.
If you have something you’d particularly like to talk about, share for feedback or ask for help with – please email Rachel Pownall ahead of the event – r.pownall@bathspa.ac.uk
