Seeing the System: the roles we play

What role do you play in shaping the future?

Many of us are working on change in some form – through technology, design, research, storytelling, community building, entrepreneurship, education or creative practice. We are often experimenting at the edges of established systems, exploring new technologies, new forms of collaboration, new economies, and new ways of learning, making and living.

Yet these efforts can sometimes feel fragmented or disconnected.

How does your work connect to a wider system? Where do you have influence? Who else is helping move things in a similar direction? And what becomes possible when we can see ourselves not as isolated projects, but as part of a living network of people, practices and ideas? This interactive workshop invites Studio Residents to explore those questions together.

Using a large-scale floor map and systems-thinking tools, we’ll create a shared picture of the different roles we play, the communities we’re connected to, and the relationships that help new ideas emerge and grow. Together we’ll explore where we are sustaining existing systems, where we are creating alternatives, and where new possibilities are beginning to take root.

The outcome will be a collective map of Residents, projects and practices – revealing hidden connections, potential collaborations and a richer understanding of the ecosystem we’re collectively helping to shape.

As a next step, we’ll explore how this physical map might evolve into a digital, interactive landscape where Residents can create avatars, navigate relationships and contribute to a growing picture of the people, projects and networks shaping change.
No prior knowledge of systems thinking required – just curiosity.

Accessibility:
We seek to make all our events accessible.
– All areas of the event are wheelchair accessible. The event space is through 2 doors from the street, with no steps.
– There are accessible toilet facilities available on the same floor as the main event, through one door.
– We provide a separate quiet room for delegates to use throughout the event.
– Parking is available in a car park near to the venue. Charlotte Street Car Park is the closest.
– You are welcome to bring a personal assistant or service animal.
– There is currently no hearing loop at The Studio. All presentations will be delivered without PA. Please reach out to us if you have hearing or audio requirements.
– You will be able to inform us of any specific access needs in the booking form for the event.
