Nick Young is a theatre maker. As a writer and director his work has centred around making shows in non-theatre spaces for non-theatre audiences. This has often taken the form of immersive promenade theatre presenting multiple (sometimes conflicting) perspectives of narratives in an attempt to challenge the idea of a Common Truth. He is interested in exploring different ways to give audiences a sense of agency within the theatrical worlds they are inhabiting for the duration of the performance. He has explored uses of technology as a way to facilitate audience interactions with the narrative and the characters within the constructed worlds, and as a tool to enhance storytelling.

Nick‘s recent work has included directing the 2019 Christmas studio show Anansi and the Grand Prize for Bristol Old Vic, The Edge for Creative Youth Network and Arnolfini & Bristol Beacon, and as a creative consultant on 5G testbed work for VR company Mativision.

Nick is currently engaged in research to understand more about the intersections between existing and emerging technologies with live performance, and the potential impact that this has on future form, content, and distribution. A core part of the research will be looking at how everyday and mobile technologies can be better used to connect with audiences for whom theatre, dance, and live art is seen as being inaccessible.
